Here Are Some Traditional Gift Ideas for Lohri That You Can Use

It is widely believed that Lohri is celebrated in Punjab and other parts of North India to celebrate the end of cold winters, and to welcome back the Sun God. But some people also believe that Lohri is a celebration of the harvest of the winter (Rabi) crop. Whatever the reason for the festival, it is celebrated with great gusto in the month of January every year. And what’s an Indian festival without lots of singing, dancing, food and exchange of gifts? So as we get ready to celebrate Lohri this year, here are some great gift ideas for Lohri.

A long time back, Lohri gifts used to consist of a few logs of wood that would be presented by each household to the neighborhood kids who went around the door to door to collect firewood for the Lohri bonfire. Another easy and common gift was cash. But nowadays many people prefer to give gifts in kind. Pooja Thalis are one of the most popular Lohri gifts. They can be presented with fruits or dry fruits, and they could be made of silver or brass. Hampers of dry fruits (just like in Diwali) are another popular Lohri gift. One must remember that peanuts and rewari are the most popular dry fruits during Lohri, and these are thrown into the bonfire to signify the discarding of the old to start the new, so the dry fruit hampers should ideally have them too. Or one could opt for hampers of rewari and gajjak. Of course, one can always fall back upon the ever popular flowers and sweets. Attractive decorative bunches of flowers can be purchased, and similarly, the mithais (sweets) for Lohri come in attractively designed boxes and gift packs.

Choose your Lohri gift and get ready to sing and dance around the bonfire!
