Even after childhood has made way for adult life, we still cherish the
thrill of getting a birthday gift and opening the wrapping of the gift
with great curiosity to see what the we have been given. A birthday gift can
make our day if the giver has put some thought into it and chosen a gift that
we will like very much or use very often, or both. On the other hand, a
commonplace birthday gift can be banished to the corner of a room if the
receiver feels that it could have been chosen for anyone, and there is nothing
unique about it.
